OUTREACH AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

Through our Baptismal call, we encounter the work of outreach and social justice at St. Bede's. We are a community of faith called to:

  • Seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves,

  • Strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.

To more fully live into our baptisms, we will strive every day to align our hearts, minds, and souls with these goals:

  1. We will serve and advocate with and for our friends, neighbors, and strangers who are marginalized and most vulnerable.

  2. We will build authentic relationships with members of the greater community, especially those who have the greatest need and those who have historically been marginalized or oppressed.

  3. We will partner with other organizations, public agencies, advocacy groups, and community leaders that value, embody, and live out selfless service and respect the dignity of every human being.

  4. We will confront evils like racism, hatred, and indifference, and ensure that everyone who walks onto our campus and those we serve in the community feel safe, accepted, seen, and heard.

  5. We will engage in the challenging and vital work of anti-racism training and racial reconciliation within the church, the broader community, and the nation.

  6. We will share God's unconditional love and redeeming grace with all of God's creation.

St. Joseph’s Food Bank provided more than 16,000 grocery bags last year through its family Food Pantry and served more than 24,000 hot nutritious meals at Bread & Roses Café, an innovative free restaurant for the homeless. On the first Sunday of each month, the congregation is encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that we donate to St. Joseph. We can always use volunteers to deliver food donations to the Food Bank.

Grass Roots Neighbors is a volunteer community organization. They meet the immediate needs of our neighbors experiencing food and housing insecurity. We mobilize to fill the gaps in existing services by providing assistance with love and respect.

This vision is to be a community effectively involved in ending poverty. Among their outreach programs, they cook and deliver a hot meal every Sunday to various encampments on the Westside.
